Trustee appointed as president of ECHDO

We are delighted to share that our trustee, Karen, has been appointed as the new President of the European Congenital Heart Disease Organisation (ECHDO).

“I am honoured to be the new president of ECHDO and be able to represent the UK. I’m looking forward to working with the new board and organisations across Europe to improve the care of children and adults with congenital heart disease and highlight the challenges that many face.”

ECHDO works to:

  • Increase understanding of CHD and support for patients of all ages: babies, children and GUCHs (grown-ups with congenital heart disease) in Europe;
  • Provide up-to-date information about CHD to patients and their families;
  • Lobby for European standards on medical and psychosocial care of CHD patients, including access to safe medicines;
  • Share information about research studies and patients’ experiences within Europe;
  • Stimulate the development of national CHD support networks;
  • Increase its impact by liaising with other European networks.

With a clear vision to share information, knowledge, and lived experience to improve access to the best possible care and treatment for everyone affected by congenital heart disease (CHD) across Europe, this is a significant and well-deserved recognition of Karen’s dedication. We warmly congratulate her on this appointment and look forward to all that she will achieve in this role – strengthening collaboration across borders, amplifying patient voices, and driving meaningful change for children and families living with CHD.
