Statement on the abolition of NHS England
We welcome any initiative that puts patients first and increases the resourcing of the NHS.
We await the ‘3 big shifts’ in services suggested – analogue to digital, sickness to prevention and hospital to community – and the potential for improvements to the care pathways, earlier detection and long term outcomes for children with heart conditions they promise.
We hope that specialised services retain an element of national oversight to ensure that the differences that led to too many issues and subsequent reviews of congenital heart services are not recreated.
Although overbearing bureaucracy should be driven out of the system, patient safety data, such as those provided through NICOR, needs to remain and continue to be developed.
In the meanwhile, we will be seeking assurances that this process will not adversely affect the thousands of children with heart conditions across the UK, and their families and carers, that are reliant on the healthcare system to receive essential treatment. Our thoughts remain with the expert and committed staff members across the NHS who care for them.
We continue our work dedicated to the vision that all children with heart conditions across the UK have their medical and social needs met to live their fullest lives possible.
