Help Us Support Families Facing Essential Medical Travel Costs

Families of children with heart conditions and rare disorders should not face financial hardship because of medical travel costs for children who need specialist care. Accessing the right treatment should not depend on a family’s ability to afford travel expenses.

Across the UK, specialist centres provide many treatments, consultations, diagnostic tests, and follow-up appointments. Many families must travel long distances to reach these services. Some make these journeys several times each year.

Travel for specialist care often creates extra costs. These can include fuel, public transport fares, parking charges, overnight accommodation, and meals away from home. Families may also lose income when they need time away from work.

Parliamentary Petition

A parliamentary petition now calls on the Government to extend support for essential medical travel costs. The proposal would help all families of children with heart conditions and rare disorders who need specialist care away from home.
